….. That is of course besides bridal feather bouquets!!!
It’s all about coordination and appearance. A tied-together wedding signifies a stylish tied-together bride. Here’s a guide for ideas on how to tie in feathers to all parts of the wedding theme.
*Keep in mind also that since the bouquet is technically the largest accessory, it’s a good rule of thumb to always base all other wedding accessories and decorations off of the bouquet’s color and design.*
1. Tie feathers and flowers around vintage candle sticks
I am such a sucker for vintage! I loveee it! Soft pink and white feathers around various tarnished silver candle sticks or shiny black candles sticks with bright red feathers and rhinestone broaches. Yum! Go crazy with this, I think you’ll be surprised. Hit up some flea markets and thrift stores and score some finds. I would also recommend covering your reception with these lovely finds.
2. Use feathers as place card holders
The ideas are endless! If you need help in this department,Do Me A Favor is a wonderful resource! They specialize in wedding invitations, favors and small details.
3. Display vases full of feathers
Feathers and vases are art forms. Gather an eclectic mix of vases and make different feather arrangements that match your bouquet to set around the ceremony and reception site.
4. Adorn your shoes
Glue some feathers right onto the shoe if you’re wild. Peacock feathers work great for this! They usually look best toward the side of the shoe right by the heel or up at the toe. You can also purchase a pair of shoe clips (again worn best in the side back heel area or toe) to adorn your tootsies on the big day.
5. Adorn the rest of you
- earrings, sash, hair clip, garder
The options really are endless with this. First things that come to my mind: Use a feather flower as a broach on the dress or attach to a sash for a belted look. Use a feather flower as a hair clip or part of your veil. Depending on your style, you can also use feathers to make earrings or bracelets. Use your imagination!
6. Use feathers on the invitations
Adorn the invites with some feathery snipets so your guest will get a real sneak peak as to what they’re in for! This is an opportunity to get really crafty and have some fun!
7. Toss feathers instead of rose petals after the ceremony
How magical! The sky is filled with soft whispy beauty and you just got married!!! Need we say more?!
8. Have a feather cake topper
I don’t know about you but when I first step into the reception area of a wedding I beeline it to the CAKE! What a creative and artistic (and tasty) expression of your style. Your cake is a big part of the day and don’t miss out the opportunity to tie in your theme here. Use a feathery cake topper that matches your bouquet or if you’re doing cupcakes or a non-traditional dessert bar, have feather flowers strewn about the table and incorporated in the display.
9. Use a feather unity candle
Simple but true, details matter and this happens to be an opportunity to add pizzaz to a fairly original candle. Although the significance runs deep, your guests really only see a white cylinder from afar. Why not jazz it up a little with a feather or fabric flowers and some ribbon tied around it?! Make it your own.
10. Sew feather fringe on bridesmaid dresses
You don’t need to be a seamstress to do this. Youtube ‘how to sew a hem’ or ‘how to add fringe’ and you’ll catch on quick. However, if that needle and thread nonsense just isn’t your thing, you can take the dress and beautiful fringe addition into either an alterations person or a seamstress to sew it on for you. This creates style, uniqueness and drama like no other. There is so much feather fringe to choose from too! (I personally love the ostrich feather trim-it screams fun and flirty!)
11. Have the flower girl hold a basket of feathers to drop
Your little flower girl will love grabbing soft handfuls of feathers to grab! It will surely set the scene. And if you don’t want to do all feathers, a fresh or synthetic rose petal and feather combination would also be lovely.
12. Incorporate feathers on the ring pillow
This is similar to the eternity candle where a simple detail like adding a feather flower can go a long way. It’s only a basic white feather pillow that everyone’s seen a million times until you add your own special feathery touch…
13. Give feather ornaments as gifts
Gifts are tricky, especially with a demographic as wide as that of a wedding. How to you thank your 80-year-old uncle and your 6-year-old niece the same way for attending one of the best days of your life?! You can’t, unless you get a gift that everyone can use. The solution: a feather ornament. Even if you’re not catholic and don’t celebrate christmas, this lovely ornament can be used as decor around the house. Hang it from a vase, a door handle, or a canopy bed.
Feather ornaments are available in many styles and designs that it’s almost certain that one will fit your wedding theme. You can personalize them with ribbons that say the couple’s names and date of the wedding, or perhaps just a simple thank you. These personalized ribbons can be tied to the hanging thread of the ornament. Place the feather ornament gift next to each place setting and it will also add to the decor of your tables. A decorative gift- how great is that!?
14. Decorate reception items with pre-made fabric flowers and feather flowers
- card box, chair tie backs
Again with the details! Just a few more suggestions on where you can add some style and spark. Embellishing chair tiebacks and the card holder box with feather flowers are just a few ideas… keep thinking!
15. Have feather centerpieces
Probably the most obvious but forgotten, feather centerpieces are key in tying your wedding theme together. Feather centerpieces can be designed to mimic or be exact replicas of the feather bouquet. Certain elements (such as peacock feathers etc.) can be highlighted by incorporating them into your centerpieces. Ostrich feather centerpieces are also a very popular and elegant option. The ostrich feathers come in many different sizes and colors too, so they’re sure to fit your wedding theme!
16. Give feather clutches to the bridesmaids
This is a great gift they can use again and again! Buy simple clutches and adorn with pre-made feather flowers or peacock feathers. Stylish and practical, and your girlfriends will thank you for the new hot accessory!
17. Walk down a feather covered aisle
How romantic! Instead of a long white boring aisle runner picture an aisle filled with soft fluffy pink feathers. It’s like getting hitched on a cloud!
18. Give guests feather fans
An especially great detail for a hot summer wedding! We all have been to hot weddings that seem to go on forever… how much better would that have been with your own personal feather fan?! This is also much more beautiful than watching everyone wave their paper programs violently back and forth to cool themselves. Peacock feather fans are especially beautiful and can even be carried down the aisle for the bride in a peacock-themed wedding. Before the ceremony set feather fans on either the chairs or in baskets near the ceremony entry way that are easy to grab. A beautiful and thoughtful touch.
19. Attach feathers and flowers to ribbon to use as decoration
Drama, Drama, Drama! The most memorable occasions and beautiful decorating call for drama. Make long feather flower ribbons that can be used to decorate everything. Hang above doors, hang from the ceiling and chandeliers or attach to the ‘just married’ sign off the limo. Your creativity is the limit!
